VINTAGE ESQUIRE CARTOONS

The Esquire Cartoon Album - 1958

Esquire cartoons of the 1950s....bless them! Unfettered by the restraints of political correctness (which hadn't been invented yet), certain cartoonists saw you as fair game for mockery in the mid-20th Century if you were poor, black (or rather, not white enough), from the southern parts of the United States, a farmer, or female (and apparently if you were female and attractive, you were also some sort of crazed sex-addict). But let's face it, if you weren't a 60-ish, overweight millionaire with a cigar, a snifter of brandy, and a secretary on one knee and a mistress on the other, you weren't quite in the vintage Esquire demographic anyway. So rather than celebrate the intolerance of the past, let's just view this page in enlightened awe at how any of this could have happened just fifty short years ago.
